Konstantin Kosachev Appointed Coordinator of IPA CIS Observer Group at Presidential Election in Belarus

By the order of Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev has been appointed coordinator of the group of the IPA CIS international observers at the presidential election of the Republic of Belarus.

At the meeting of the IPA CIS Council, which took place in November at the headquarters of the organization, Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Kochanova invited a group of the IPA CIS international observers to take part in monitoring the elections.

“Given the vast experience of the IPA CIS in monitoring the preparation and conduct of elections and the unwavering authority of the organization, objectivity of its conclusions, I have the honor on behalf of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus to invite the Interparliamentary Assembly to take part in the international observation of the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus. Today I have handed over the corresponding official invitation to Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko,”- said the Speaker.

On 1 January 2025, pre-election campaigning and voter information will begin, early voting will take place from 21 to 25 January, and the main election voting day will take place on 26 January.

No later than 5 February, the CEC must establish the results of the presidential election. If necessary, a second round of voting will take place before 9 February.
