Long-Term Monitoring of Presidential Election in Azerbaijan Continues

IPA CIS Observers discussed legal aspects of the electoral process with Chair of the Constitutional Court of the Azerbaijan Republic Farhad Abdullaev. He detailed information on the establishment, responsibilities and functions of the Constitutional Court.

Coordinator of the observer group, Deputy Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhakyp Asanon delivered to the Chair of the Constitutional Court the conclusion on the compliance of the legislation of Azerbaijan with international standards for democratic elections, which was prepared by IPA CIS IIMDD experts.

Later, the observers held a meeting with heads and representatives of the election campaign teams which nominated candidates for the President of the Azerbaijan Republic.

Members of the observer group discussed the course of electoral campaign with Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party - Head of the Central Administration Tahir Budagov. At the meeting special features of the current election campaign, principles of work of the observers and attitude of the electorate were discussed.

Also, the observers held a meeting and discussed the course of electoral campaign with representatives of the party “Azerbaijan National Front”. Plenipotentiary Representative, Deputy Chairman of the party Elchin Mirzabayli told about party’s program and work during pre-election period.

Afterwards, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Azerbaijan Republic hosted a meeting between Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and its Minister Jeyhun Bayramov.

Dmitriy Kobitskiy informed the Minister about work of the international observers within the framework of the short-term and long-term monitoring of the presidential election in Azerbaijan.

Jeyhun Bayramov spoke about the role and participation of the MFA in ensuring the organization of the presidential election.
