Commonwealth Countries Celebrate International Women Day

Across the Commonwealth countries, International Women’s Day is being celebrated. Despite the shared date, the holiday has different names and traditions in CIS Member Nations.

In Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Uzbekistan, it is observed as Women’s Day. In Belarus, 2026 has been declared the Year of the Belarusian Woman.

In Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia, the holiday is celebrated as International Women’s Day.

In Tajikistan, it is marked as Mother’s Day.

In Armenia, celebrations begin on 8 March and continue until 7 April — the Day of Motherhood and Beauty. This period is known as “Miamsyak.”

Women across the Commonwealth were congratulated by Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy. He emphasized their special role in public and political life, as well as their contribution to the development of interparliamentary cooperation and strengthening friendship among nations.

“Thanks to the wisdom, attention to social issues, and commitment to consensus that distinguish women, legislative activity becomes more balanced and responsive. You bring constructive dialogue and care for future generations into politics.

Women in Commonwealth countries demonstrate high professionalism and hold leading positions in politics, business, science, culture, and the social sphere, while remaining devoted to preserving traditions and values, as well as being caring mothers, wives, and daughters.

On this spring holiday, I wish you strong health, well-being, love and support from your loved ones, successful realization of all plans, inexhaustible energy, and joy.”
