Spring Session of IPA CIS to Take Place 20–22 May

Parliamentary delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan will take part in events of spring session of Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) at Tavricheskiy Palace in Saint Petersburg.
On 20 May (10:00, Hall No. 16), round table “Deradicalization and Social Reintegration of Persons Involved in Illegal Activities of Terrorist and Extremist Organizations: Opportunities and Prospects” will take place. Event is organized jointly with Basic Organization of the CIS Member Nations for Research of Problems of Combating Terrorism and Other Manifestations of Extremism — Research Center of Federal Security Service of Russian Federation.
Key event of 21 May will be meeting of Council of IPA CIS (16:30, Reading Hall), chaired by Chairperson of Council of the IPA CIS, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko. Heads of parliamentary delegations of Commonwealth countries and experts will take part in meeting. Council will discuss current agenda issues, results of the IPA CIS activities in 2025, legislative work plan for next three years, results of observation of electoral campaigns in Commonwealth and other topics.
Meetings of the IPA CIS bodies will also be held on 21 May:
- Joint Commission under the IPA CIS on Harmonization of Legislation in Sphere of Security and Countering New Challenges and Threats (9:30, Hall No. 16);
- The IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Political Issues and International Cooperation (10:00, Hall No. 9);
- Youth Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations (10:30, Hall No. 20);
- The IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues (11:00, Hall No. 16).
International conference “Legislative Regulation of Use of Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies for Counterterrorism and Prevention of Radicalism and Extremism” will also take place on 21 May. IPA CIS organizes conference jointly with the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (13:00, Hall No. 1).
MPs and international experts will discuss evolving threat landscape, new methods of using artificial intelligence for counterterrorism purposes with practical examples, oversight mechanisms and ethical aspects ensuring compliance with human rights and norms of international humanitarian law.
On 22 May at 10:30, MPs of Commonwealth countries, representatives of partner international delegations, experts and honorary guests will take part in 60th Plenary Session of the IPA CIS (Duma Hall).
Reports will be delivered on topic “Year of Health Protection in Commonwealth of Independent States: Coordinated Policy and National Strategies”.
MPs will be presented with new version of Land Code for the CIS Member Nations.
Plenary meeting will also consider a number of draft documents concerning regulation of system for development and support of young talents in Commonwealth countries, coordinated approaches to organization of labour standardization in CIS Member Nations taking into account introduction of digital technologies, platform employment, strategic planning, protection of children from information harmful to their health and development, and several other issues.
