Belarus Kazakhstan Strengthen Interparliamentary Dialogue

A meeting took place in Minsk between President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov, who is visiting the republic on a working visit.
The parties discussed prospects for Belarusian-Kazakh cooperation. The interlocutors emphasized the importance of maintaining allied ties, developing trade and economic interaction, industrial cooperation and joint production. Particular attention was paid to interregional cooperation, as well as the convergence of the two countries’ approaches to the international agenda, issues of sovereignty and the multipolar world order. The President of Belarus highlighted the significant role of parliaments in implementing agreements reached at the highest level.
Erlan Koshanov informed the President of Belarus about large-scale political reforms currently being implemented in Kazakhstan at the initiative of the President. A draft new Constitution is being widely discussed in the country and is intended to fundamentally reset the socio-political and legal architecture of the state. The final decision on the draft new Basic Law will be made by citizens in a nationwide referendum.
A separate meeting was also held between Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova and Erlan Koshanov.
The participants discussed key areas of bilateral cooperation. The parties noted the strategic nature of relations between the two countries, active cooperation at international parliamentary platforms, including the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States, as well as the development of the legal framework and interregional ties.
A meeting also took place between Chair of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Igor Sergeyenko and Erlan Koshanov.
The sides reviewed issues related to interparliamentary dialogue, coordination of efforts at international platforms, and the development of humanitarian and economic cooperation.
