Preparations for Upcoming IPA CIS Events Discussed in Turkmenistan

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy took part in a working meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat. As the country holding the CIS Chairmanship in 2026, Turkmenistan will host a number of important events this autumn.

One of the key events will be the autumn session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS.

“During the 60th plenary session of the IPA CIS in May this year, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova conveyed the invitation of National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to hold a meeting of the Commonwealth parliamentarians in Turkmenistan. This will be a historic event, the IPA CIS session will be held in your country for the first time,” Dmitriy Kobitskiy noted.

Accordingly, meetings of the IPA CIS Council and the 61st plenary session of the Assembly, as well as meetings of the organisation’s permanent commissions, are scheduled to take place on 19–20 November 2026.

Also, MPs from the CIS, together with representatives of the ministries of health of the Commonwealth countries, the WHO Regional Office for Europe, the CIS Executive Committee and international organisations, will take part in the Second International Conference “Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals”. The IPA CIS, the WHO Regional Office for Europe and the Mejlis of Turkmenistan plan to hold the event on 7 October 2026.

The conference will address such issues as the development of primary health care, sustainable access to medicines and medicines security, as well as the role of parliaments in shaping health-oriented tax policies.

The meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, attended by representatives of a number of other ministries and government agencies of the country, focused on preparations for IPA CIS events.
