IPA CIS Observers to Monitor Presidential Election in Uzbekistan

The IPA CIS received a letter from Head of the CEC of the Republic of Uzbekistan Zainiddin Nizamkhodzhayev addressed to Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko. The letter contains an invitation to the IPA CIS international observers to participate in the monitoring the snap election of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to be held on 9 July 2023.

Preparation for the election continues in the Republic. The parties have approved candidates and their agendas. The candidates for the Presidency of the Republic of Uzbekistan are current President of the Republic Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Robakhon Mahmudova, Ulugbek Inoyatov and Abdushukur Khamzaev.

Previously, the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved a calendar plan for the preparation and conduct of the election. It determines the 51 activities in 7 areas of the electoral process stipulated by law and their timing.

In accordance with the constitutional amendments adopted by the referendum on 30 April 2023, the President of Uzbekistan is elected for seven years.
