CIS Advisory Board on Cooperation in the Field of Public Health Discussed COVID-19 Situation

The 31st special meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Cooperation in the Field of Public Health took place on 30 June 2020 via videoconferencing chaired by Minister of Public Health of the Republic of Uzbekistan Alisher Shadmanov.

The event brought together the members of the Council and the Plenipotentiary Representatives of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as the representatives of the CIS Executive Committee and the WHO Regional Office for Europe. The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly was represented by Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights, Executive Secretary of the IPA CIS Board of Experts on Public Health Evgenia Vladimirova.

Heads of the CIS Member Nations sectoral agencies exchanged the information on the epidemiological situation and the adopted measures to fight COVID-19. The participants noted that the specialists maintained close links and exchanged best practices, methodological developments and necessary medications.

Director of the WHO Regional Office for Europe Hans Kluge noted the importance of communication, coordination and information exchange for the sake of preserving public health, emphasizing that the coronavirus epidemic was in active phase in many countries. The WHO Regional Director for Europe commended the CIS collaborative efforts to fight the pandemic.

The representative of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Inna Kulikova told the meeting about the Russian experience in providing medical care for children with new coronavirus infection.

During the meeting, the participants were briefed on the implementation of the Decision of the Council of the CIS Heads of Government of 29 May 2020 on the CIS Joint Efforts to Counter the Spread of Coronavirus Infection, as well as on the implementation of the Decision of the 30th Meeting of the CIS Advisory Board on Cooperation in the Field of Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-Being of the Population.

The Council approved the Draft CIS Agreement on Cooperation on Prevention and Response to Sanitary and Epidemiological Emergency Situations in the Field of Public Health and a number of other documents.
