CIS Countries Celebrate International Volunteer Day

On 5 December 2023, International Volunteer Day is celebrated. The proposal to hold a socially significant holiday for the whole world was put forward by the UN General Assembly in 1985.

The CIS Interparliamentary Assembly adopted a Model Law on Volunteeringin 2015.

In the Azerbaijan Republic, Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan the volunteering is regulated by separate normative legal acts. In the Republic of Belarus and the Kyrgyz Republic, the provisions on volunteering are integrated into legal acts regulating youth policy.

By decision of the heads of the CIS Member Nations, 2024 was declared the Year of Volunteer Movementin the CIS.
