Speaker of Mazhilis of Parliament of Republic of Kazakhstan Arrived in Russia on Official Visit

Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Koshanov, as part of an official visit to Russia, met with Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko and Speaker of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin. The parties discussed plans for the development of interparliamentary cooperation, as well as issues of interregional economic, cultural and educational interaction.

Valentina Matvienko drew attention to active interaction between the governments and parliaments of the two countries, also noted that interparliamentary commissions became a strong mechanism for cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The parties also discussed issues of interaction on international platforms, primarily within the framework of the IPA CIS, where new opportunities for the exchange of experience in legislative work had been created.

Valentina Matvienko also reported that Russia, as the current presiding country of BRICS, invited all speakers of parliaments of the CIS countries to participate in the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum at the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters – in July this year.

Erlan Koshanov emphasized the high level of bilateral cooperation and the friendly nature of relations between Russia and Kazakhstan. He also informed about the priorities of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, as well as about the country’s policy to strengthen the Russian language prevalence within the framework of the International Organization for the Russian Language initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Speaker of the Mazhilis announced that Kazakh MPs would take part in observation of the upcoming presidential elections in Russia within the framework of international mission. Valentina Matvienko thanked Kazakh authorities for the assistance provided in organizing voting for Russians living in Kazakhstan.

Erlan Koshanov also met with Vyacheslav Volodin.

According to the Speaker of the State Duma, the dynamics of relations between Kazakhstan and Russia is set by presidents and the dialogue between MPs should correspond to this level.

As a result of the meeting, parties concluded that it is necessary to continue to steadily develop diplomatic relations between two countries for achievement significant results in the interests of the local population.
