Valentina Matvienko Outlined Priority Areas of Work of MPs for 2024

On 24 January, the 559th plenary meeting of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation took place, which opened the spring session of 2024. During the meeting, senators considered and approved a number of laws, discussed topical socio-economic issues and outlined the priority areas of their work.

The meeting was opened by Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.

According to Valentina Matvienko, the most important and expected political event of the year will be the election of the President of Russia. Valentina Matvienko considers it important that residents of all constituent entities of the Federation show civic responsibility, go to the voting stations and cast their votes for a worthy candidate.

Valentina Matvienko drew attention to the fact that the “Year of the Family” is being actively filled with substantive tasks. MPs will have to work on bringing legislation in line with the provisions of the Presidential Decree, which establishes a unified federal status of large families and support measures for them.

During Russia's presidency in the CIS the course on strengthening ties within the framework of the IPA CIS will be continued. It is planned to pay special attention to interregional formats of interaction, including the 11th Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia and the 8th Interparliamentary Forum “Russia-Tajikistan”. Within the framework of the Russian BRICS Chairmanship, the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in St. Petersburg.

Valentina Matvienko informed that during the spring session preparations for the IV Eurasian Women's Forum will be actively underway, which is expected to become one of the most important and most notable international events of the year.
