Concept of Russia's Chairmanship in Commonwealth in 2024 was Presented at Meeting of Council of CIS Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives

On 23 January 2024, this year’s first meeting of the Council of the CIS Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth, chaired by the Russian Federation, was held in Minsk.

The meeting was attended by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexandr Pankin, who presented the Concept of Russia’s Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2024, approved by President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, and the Action Plan for its implementation.

A video message on the occasion of Russia’s chairmanship in the CIS was sent by Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov.

According to the Concept, in order to form a common legal space, emphasis will be placed on supporting the work of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS Member Nations, enhancing its international standing, and strengthening ties with other parliamentary associations.

The next meeting of the Council of the CIS Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives to the statutory and other bodies of the Commonwealth is scheduled for 27 February.

Representative of the Secretariat of the IPA CIS Council at the CIS Executive Committee Igor Borovko took part in the meeting.
