SPIEF’23 Bagan Its Work in St. Petersburg

On 14 June, the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum started in St. Petersburg. The Forum is held for the 26th time, the idea of the event belonged to the IPA CIS and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation: the Forum took place in the Tavricheskiy palace from 1997 to 2005.

The theme of this year’s Forum is “Sovereign Development as the Basis of a Just World: Joining Forces for Future Generations”. More than 17 thousand people from 130 countries have confirmed their participation in SPIEF’23.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his greetings to the participants, organizers, and guests of the 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. He noted that the Russian business community continues to be active in today’s economic reality. Vladimir Putin emphasized it is vital to make the most of the opportunities that are presenting themselves in the global economy and to focus on attaining technological and financial sovereignty, forging strong ties, developing optimal logistics routes, improving infrastructure and tackling inequality and poverty.

“Boosting the labour market is another priority. In order to achieve this, there needs to be a close partnership between the state and the business community, particularly with regard to introducing lean manufacturing technology and modernizing enterprises. And of course, more work is needed to optimize professional training and retraining programmes and improve the national employment service”, said the President.

The SPIEF’23 main programme of business events is divided into 5 thematic tracks, including “The World Economy at a Global Turning Point”, “The Russian Economy: From Adaptation to Growth”, “Building Technological Sovereignty”, “Protecting the Population and Quality of Life as the Main Priority”, “The Labour Market: A Response to the New Challenges”.

The Forum is one of the world’s leading platforms for discussing key economic issues. On the sidelines of SPIEF the mechanisms of strategic development of the state in cooperation with all development institutions, regions, NGOs, public associations, mass media and youth organizations are elaborated. Hundreds of international contracts and agreements are traditionally concluded during the Forum.

Every year the Forum is attended by heads of state and government, speakers of parliaments, representatives of the political and business elite of the CIS and other countries.

The 26th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is set to take place on 14–17 June 2023.
