Specifics of Migration Policy of Commonwealth Countries to be Discussed at Labour Forum in Tavricheskiy Palace

The VIII St. Petersburg International Labour Forum will be held on 20-22 February 2024. The event will be opened by the international conference “The Concept of Common Migration Area of the CIS Member Nations: Common Principles and National Interests”, which will be held at the Tavricheskiy Palace - the headquarters of the IPA CIS.

The conference will discuss the specifics of migration policy of the Commonwealth countries, as well as the main directions of updating the Concept of the Common Migration Area of the CIS countries, adopted by the IPA CIS in 2012.

The following are invited to participate in the conference:

  • Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy;
  • Director of the Moscow Office of the International Organization for Migration Marina Schramm;
  • Member of the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Issues of Nationalities, Head of the Working Group on Legal Regulation, Social and Cultural Adaptation and Integration of Migrants, Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons in the Russian Federation under the Committee of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Issues of Nationalities Anastasia Udaltsova;
  • Member of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Economy and Finance, Member of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration Kubanychbek Samakov;
  • Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to the Russian Federation Karim Atassi;
  • Chair of the Council of the Heads of CIS Migration Authorities, First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Alexander Gorovoi;
  • Head of the Federal Service for Labor and Employment of the Russian Federation Mikhail Ivankov;
  • Secretary of the Council of Heads of CIS Migration Authorities, Chief of the Main Directorate for migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Valentina Kazakova.

The event will bring together MPs, representatives of relevant ministries and agencies of the CIS countries, academics, politicians, as well as representatives of international organizations and experts in the field of migration.

Among the topics on the agenda are the improvement and harmonization of national legislation in the field of migration of the Commonwealth countries, stimulating the attraction of highly qualified and in-demand labour resources, creating conditions for professional and qualification pre-immigration training and social infrastructure, ensuring a balance between the need for human resources and maintaining the necessary level of security.

The Forum is organized by the IPA CIS, the Government of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg State University, CEC ExpoForum with the support of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Russian Federation.

Over 6.5 thousand delegates, guests and participants of the Forum will discuss the whole range of issues and problems arising in the course of transformation of the labor market into the employment market under the conditions of global changes in the world order and geo-economy.
