First Business Role-Playing Game in History of Parliamentarianism was Held at Tavricheskiy Palace This Year

On 1 February, in the Dumskiy Hall of the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters – a business game “Session of the Second State Duma on the Abolition of Military Field Courts (1907)” was held. Five teams from the North-West Institute of management of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration took part in the intellectual competition dedicated to the history of Russian parliamentarism.

The game was prepared and conducted by the staff of the Department for the Analysis of the History of Parliamentarianism.

The students had to demonstrate their ability to think and analyze, creativity and oratorical skills.

With great skill, the students "performed" the roles of the Chairman, ministers and deputies of the Second Duma from different factions in interiors that have not changed much since that time. The discussion that unfolded during the "meeting" aroused great interest and showed the deep knowledge of the game participants of the history of Russian parliamentarism and the history of Russia in the early twentieth century.

The Game requires serious preliminary preparation: its participants should familiarize themselves in advance with the materials of verbatim reports of the State Duma on the proposed topic, prepare speeches of "speakers".

The study and popularization of the history of parliamentarism is one of the areas of work of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat. The Center for the History of Parliamentarism holds historical quizzes and business role-playing games for students. In addition, students take part in the international scientific conference " Current Issues of Parliamentarianism: History and Modernity" (Readings in the Tavricheskiy), which is held annually at the IPA CIS headquarters in December.
