Program of Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” Has Been Formed

On 12-13 October, the International Forum “Sustainable Development of Mountain Territories” will be held in the Tavricheskiy Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters.

The Forum is being organized by the IPA CIS, the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Geographical Society under the support of the CIS Executive Committee and the Government of St. Petersburg. 

Representatives of parliaments, executive authorities, local government of the CIS Member Nations and other states, world academia and international organizations will discuss issues of sustainable development of mountain territories, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation in the area.

The program of the Forum includes a plenary session, panel discussion and six roundtables, where the issues of socio-economic aspects of mountain regions development, preservation and promotion of mountain ethnos culture, employment of local population, optimization of ecological and economic relations in the mountains, preservation of biodiversity, dangerous natural and anthropogenic processes and others will be considered.

The Forum program also includes:

• a founding meeting on the organization of the Eurasian alliance of mountain territories;
• an open meeting of the working group under the Commission of the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation on Development of Agricultural Sector and Rural Areas to consider issues of legal regulation in the field of development and conservation of mountain territories in the Russian Federation;
• a joint meeting of the North Caucasus Scientific Cooperation, the Russian Geographical Society, and the Commission of the International Geographical Union on Mountain Studies.

The discussions will result in proposals for improving legislation aimed at the development and protection of mountain territories, strengthening interregional and cross-border cooperation, developing eco-tourism, ensuring a healthy environment and improving the quality of life of residents.

Within the framework of the event there will be the International Forum Travel Hub “Commonwealth”, the theme of which in 2023 will be mountain tourism in the CIS countries.
