Ceremony in Honor of 80th Anniversary of Leningrads Liberation from Siege Held at Piskarevskiy Memorial

A solemn mourning ceremony was held at the Piskarevskiy Memorial Cemetery on 27 January – on the day of the 80th anniversary of the complete liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi Siege. St. Petersburg citizens, Russian MPs, war veterans, siege survivors, representatives of delegations of the CIS countries and other states, authorities of a number of Russian regions, public organizations came to honour the memory of the residents and defenders of the unconquered city.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko laid flowers at the Motherland Monument. She emphasized that the Piskarevskiy Memorial Cemetery is both a place of grief and a symbol of the invincibility of the human spirit of Leningrad citizens.

A delegation of the IPA CIS Secretariat took part in the solemn and mourning ceremony at the Piskarevskiy Memorial Cemetery. Flowers were laid at the monument by the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy, his deputies – plenipotentiary representatives of the CIS parliaments.
