Humanitarian action to become a platform of CIS development

Media support of Commonwealth activities was addressed at a coordination meeting of heads of CIS industry-specific engagement agencies in humanitarian field, held during the VII Forum of Academia and Art Communities.

Minsk welcomed IPA CIS representatives and ministers of culture, information, youth and sports from the Commonwealth, board members of the Intergovernmental Trust Fund for Humanitarian Action, and heads of leading media of the CIS space.

The meeting discussed media support of promoting humanitarian action in the CIS and shaping the draft 2020 humanitarian and tourism strategies. The participants underlined the growing role of the media supporting humanitarian action in the CIS and welcomed the efforts of the Council of Heads of National Information Agencies of the CIS.

The experts noted the need of using information technologies to enhance the role of the Commonwealth. Considering the current intensive humanitarian efforts across the CIS, engagement with press services of ministries and administration offices of the Commonwealth could be more active and targeted.

The participants hope that new joint media projects will promote community of nations, ideals of humanism, mutual understanding, and peaceful co-existence. They suggested that CIS industry-specific engagement agencies prepare a detailed event schedule and specify the methods to enhance cultural, educational, fitness, and eco-tourism.

Also, the meeting focused on drafting Strategy of Humanitarian Engagement of CIS Member Nations and 2020 CIS Tourism Strategy. The participants stressed the need for finalizing and adoption of the Schedule of Events dedicated to 2014 Tourism Year in the CIS.
