Best Practices in Implementing Joint Government-Business Initiatives Reviewed at Nevsky International Ecological Congress

The roundtable “Uniting the Efforts of the State and Business to Guarantee Environmental Wellbeing” was held within the framework of the X Nevsky International Ecological Congress at the IPA CIS headquarters.

The participants of the roundtable considered the best practices in the implementation of initiatives in the field of sustainable development, ecology, development of green technologies and discussed the promotion of an international dialogue on achieving environmental wellbeing, taking into account the challenges of our time.

Director General of the State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM Alexey Likhachev noted the common understanding of the implementation of environmental projects with the Government and the relevant Ministry.

Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Agriculture and Food Policy and Environmental Management Vladimir Lebedev said that Russia had not withdrawn from any international agreement on ecology, but the priorities for cooperation had changed.

The issue of climate change is one of the priorities in the national strategy for sustainable development in Belarus, noted Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Khudyk.

Public participation at every stage of decision-making is obligatory and allows to reduce future risks said Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zulfiya Suleimenova.

Head of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources Svetlana Rodionova noted Kazakhstan’s experience as a benchmark in defining the environmental concept, and urged law-makers to pay attention to it.

The discussion brought together parliamentarians, representatives of relevant ministries, Russian and foreign representatives of academia and business.

Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Science and Education, Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Science, Education and Culture Lilia Gumerova moderated the roundtable “Eco-Enlightenment. The Future through the Eyes of Children”. The experts discussed raising of youth ecological culture and the role of legislative regulation in the field of professional training and retraining of ecology-related specialists.

The second day of the Congress also included the roundtable “The Elusive World: Paying Back Our Debt to Nature”, which discussed national strategies and successful biodiversity conservation projects.

Today, the roundtables “Eco-Volunteering being on Guard of Nature” and “Sustainable Development as a New Model for the Economic Development of Russia’s Regions” were also held.
