IPA CIS International Observers Conduct Long-Term Monitoring of Elections in Azerbaijan

On 17 January 2024, within the framework of the long-term monitoring of the snap presidential elections in the Azerbaijan Republic, the IPA CIS International Observers headed by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ivan Mushket visited the Consulate General of the Azerbaijan Republic in St. Petersburg.

During the meeting with Consul General of Azerbaijan in Saint Petersburg Sultan Gasimov, they discussed issues related to the preparation of a polling station on the territory of the Consulate, formation of the precinct election commission, and compilation of the voter list.

On 19 January 2024, the IPA CIS International Observers held a meeting in the format of video-conference with candidate for President of the Azerbaijan Republic from the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Gudrat Hasanguliyev.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aydin Jafarov, Director of the Baku office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ramin Rzayev, IPA CIS IIMDD expert Stanislav Tkachenko, staff members of the IPA CIS IIMDD and its office in Baku.

On 22 January 2024, the IPA CIS International Observers held an online meeting with representatives of the election headquarters of the New Azerbaijan Party, which nominated incumbent head of state Ilham Aliyev as a candidate for the snap presidential election.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party - Head of the Central Administration Tahir Budagov, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aydin Jafarov, Director of the Baku office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ramin Rzayev, Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD Bishkek Office Islambek Mursabekov, IPA CIS IIMDD experts Anatoly Boyashov, Stanislav Epifantsev and Roman Romashov, as well as the IPA CIS IIMDD staff members.

On 26 January 2024, IPA CIS international observer, Director of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Bishkek Office Islambek Mursabekov visited the polling station at the Embassy of the Azerbaijan Republic in Kyrgyzstan within the framework of the long-term monitoring of the snap election of the President of Azerbaijan and met with Chair of the precinct election commission, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Kyrgyz Republic Latif Gandilov.

On 26 January 2024, IPA CIS international observer, Adviser to the Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Sergey Karavaev visited the polling station at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation in the course of long-term monitoring of the snap presidential election in Azerbaijan and met with Chair of precinct election commission, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Russian Federation Polad Bülbüloglu.

Mr. Ambassador informed that two polling stations would be opened in Moscow on the voting day.
