First Forum of Women of North Kicked off in Tavricheskiy Palace

On 5 June, the first Forum of Women of the North kicked off in the Tavricheskiy palace – the IPA CIS headquarters. The forum participants will consider issues of health preservation, development of leadership potential of women of northern regions, creation of favorable conditions for entrepreneurship.

A plenary session “Women of the North: Preservation of Traditions and Sustainable Development of Territories” was opened by Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko.

President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the forum participants. He pointed out that women work in different activity areas and proved themselves in public and creative fields, in healthcare, education, science and business. They effectively solved professional problems and payed great attention to the implementation of humanitarian, educational and charitable initiatives.

“New opportunities are opening up today for involving women and women’s organisations in resolving key national tasks, including in the North, the Far East and Siberia. I would like to emphasise that the state will continue to support large-scale projects aimed at socioeconomic development of these regions, improving the quality of life, preserving family values and the unique customs and cultures of indigenous peoples, and your knowledge, experience and creative potential will be in full demand in this important work”, reads the message, which was delivered by Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office of the Russian Federation Magomedsalam Magomedov.

Speaking at the plenary session Valentina Matvienko pointed out that the largest energy and industrial projects was implemented in the North, the Northern Sea Route was actively developing, important environmental programs had been launched.

Cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev, Dmitry Petelin and Andrey Fedyaev sent a video greeting to the forum participants from the International Space Station.

Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the Eurasian Women’s Forum Council Galina Karelova, Chair of the Committee of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on Social Policy Inna Svyatenko, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy also participate in the Forum.

The forum participants will enjoy the eventful program. The business part of the program includes plenary sessions, strategic and expert sessions, discussion platforms, public-private and business dialogues, master classes and business breakfasts.

The forum’s main platforms are “Women of the North: Preservation of Traditions and Culture”, “Women of the North: Traditional Economic Sectors in Achieving Social Well-Being”, and “Women of the North: Health and Well-Being of Northerners”.

The Forum also provides an exhibition and cultural program, which includes the festival “Health and Beauty of the North”, master classes, presentation areas, photography exhibitions and interactive areas.

The organizers of the first Forum of Women of the North are the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the Association of Indigenous Small-numbered Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Women’s Forum.

The Forum will take place on 5-7 June and bring together about 300 participants including public leaders from indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation, representatives of academia and education, women entrepreneurs and representatives of legislative and executive authorities.
