Secretary General of IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and Head of ICRC Regional Delegation in Russia and Belarus Boris Michel had Meeting

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and Head of the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus Boris Michel, who arrived to participate in the VIII St. Petersburg International Labour Forum, met at the headquarters of the IPA CIS.

The parties discussed topical issues of the international conference ”The concept of Common Migration Area of the CIS Member Nations: Common Principles and National Interests“, which opened in the Tavricheskiy Palace. The conversation also outlined promising areas of cooperation between the two organizations.

The Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council noted that effective cooperation between the International Committee of the Red Cross and the IPA CIS on the basis of the agreement signed 20 years ago continues to develop.

The Head of the Secretariat recalled that a number of documents in the field of humanitarian law were issued by the IPA CIS with the expert support of the ICRC.  Dmitriy Kobitskiy recalled that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Geneva Conventions, the humanitarian principles of which the world community is guided by at the present time. He invited representatives of the ICRC to take part in meetings of the relevant commissions of the Assembly and discuss the importance of these documents in the modern world.

Boris Michel thanked the organizers of the St. Petersburg Labour Forum for the opportunity to participate in its work and present the position of the International Committee of the Red Cross on migration issues.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Alexey Dolzhikov, Head of the Expert and Analytical Department of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Denis Zhuk and Secretary of the IPA CIS Standing Committee on Social Policy and Human Rights, Executive Secretary of the Expert Council on Healthcare at the IPA CIS Evgenia Vladimirova.
