Forum “St. Petersburg – the Parliamentary Capital of the Commonwealth” Kicked off

The international forum “St. Petersburg – the Parliamentary Capital of the Commonwealth” began its work at three venues in the Russian northern capital. Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia hosted a roundtable “Youth Parliamentarism – School for the Formation of the Legal and Political Culture of the Youth”. Vice-Rector for International Affairs and Internationalization of the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor Dmitriy Mereshkin and Director of the Higher School of Law and Forensic Technical Expertise of the Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University Humanitarian Institute, Candidate of Law, Associate Professor. Dmitriy Mokhorov moderated the event.

The discussion focused on the participation of young people in elections and referenda, the role of legal education in reducing youth absenteeism, volunteer activities of students during election campaigns, etc.

The experience of international parliamentary cooperation was presented in the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. Member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Vsevolod Belikov chaired the roundtable and delivered a welcoming message from Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Alexander Belsky. The participants discussed the opportunities of Russian regional legislative authorities, interregional parliamentary relations and regional parliamentary engagement across the CIS.

The roundtable “Development of Cooperation Across the CIS: Special Features of St. Petersburg Practices” was held in the Tavricheskiy Palace.
