CIS Observer Mission Assessed Tajikistan Presidential Elections

The press conference of the IPA CIS Observer Mission at the Tajikistan presidential election took place in Dushanbe. According to the observers, the election campaign in the Republic of Tajikistan was held in accordance with the country’s legislation.
Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitry Kobitskiy took part in the press conference.
Chairperson of the Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia on Defense and Security Oleg Belokonev presented a conclusion on the election results. He informed the journalists that 97 observers from the CIS countries worked during these elections. As part of the long-term and short-term monitoring, they held several meetings with the leaderships of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda, territorial and local election commissions, the Supreme Court of the Republic of Tajikistan, presidential candidates, members of the OSCE/ODIHR mission, etc.
Oleg Belokonev also noted that the formation of territorial and district election commissions and the registration of the candidates were carried out in accordance with the laws in place.
According to the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of International Affairs, there had been no complaints from representatives of the political parties, public organizations and citizens about violations of the election legislation.
Speaking with the journalists, Dmitry Kobitskiy noted the good organizational work of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan. He stressed that all necessary conditions were created for the observers’ activities. Dmitry Kobitskiy also thanked the media representatives for their attention to the work of the IPA CIS observers.
The CIS observers wished Tajikistan and its citizens peace, well-being and prosperity.
Earlier, Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of the Republic of Tajikistan Bakhtiyor Khudoyorzoda presented the preliminary results of the presidential elections. According to him, the turnout was 85,39%. Incumbent President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received 90,92% of votes.
