Council of the Republic of the National Assembly

Established following a national referendum in November 1996 after the expiration of the mandare of the Supreme Soviet of Belarus. Opened for session on 13 January 1997.

Seats: 64

Mandate: 56 MPs are elected by community councils, eight are appointed by the President of the Republic. The term of office is five years. Eligibility is for citizenz over 30 years old with permanent residency of no less than five years.

House of Representatives of the National Assembly
