Date of Parliamentary Elections Called in Azerbaijan

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has called snap elections in the country on 1 September 2024. The Head of State also signed a decree on the dissolution of Milli Majlis of the sixth convocation.

Earlier, the Milli Majlis appealed to the President regarding the holding of snap parliamentary elections.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova said that deputies representing the New Azerbaijan Party (Azerbaijani: Yeni Azərbaycan Partiyası) made a proposal to appeal to the President about holding snap elections. The appeal was put to the vote and adopted.

According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, the right to dissolve Parliament and call parliamentary elections belongs to the President.
