IPA CIS International Observers met with Leadership of Territorial Election Commissions of Belarus

The IPA CIS international observers continue their long-term monitoring of the presidential election in the Republic of Belarus. Today they discussed the progress of the election campaign with the heads of territorial election commissions of Minsk, Brest, Mogilev and Minsk regions via videoconferencing.

Secretary of the CEC of the Republic of Belarus Elena Baldovskaya took part in the meeting. She said that the stage of registration of candidates for President of the Republic of Belarus was completed on 23 December. The campaigning is beginning.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket informed the participants of the meeting that the formation of an international observers group from among MPs of the IPA CIS Member Nations, staff members of the Assembly and experts of the Institute was in progress.

The group will be headed by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev.

The IPA CIS international observers group plans to observe the early voting in the regions of Belarus, and on the main voting day will visit polling stations in Minsk and other regions of the Republic of Belarus.

During the conversation between the observers and representatives of the election administration bodies, special attention was paid to the issues of informing citizens about the upcoming elections and the electoral campaign, interaction with the media, creation of equal conditions for campaigning.

The IPA CIS observers monitor the elections at the invitation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
