IPA CIS Observers Started Long-Term Monitoring of Parliamentary Elections in Republic of Azerbaijan

The IPA CIS international observers discussed the preparations for the snap parliamentary elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan with representatives of the parties’ election headquarters (the New Azerbaijan Party; the Party of Justice, Law and Democracy; the Great Azerbaijan Party) in an online format as part of long-term monitoring.

Deputy Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat – Director of the International Institute for Monitoring the Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD), Doctor of Law, Professor Ivan Mushket informed the participants of the events that, in accordance with the invitation of Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova, the IPA CIS international observers are taking part in monitoring the parliamentary elections scheduled for 1 September 2024.

The Director of the Institute said that at the moment a group of observers is being formed from representatives of the parliaments of the IPA CIS Member Nations, staff members of the Assembly and the IPA CIS IIMDD experts. First Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Andrey Yatskin was appointed as the coordinator of the group.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aydin Jafarov, Adviser to the Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Sergey Koravaev, Deputy Director of the IPA CIS IIMDD Elena Eremenko, IPA CIS IIMDD expert Roman Romashov and other IPA CIS IIMDD staff members.
