MPs of Commonwealth Countries Assessed Presidential Election in Belarus

On 26 January 2025, the presidential elections were held in the Republic of Belarus. The electoral process was monitored by international observers from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, including representatives of the parliaments of the Commonwealth countries. The work of the group was coordinated by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev.

On the main day of the elections, the legislators shared their impressions on the preparation and conduct of the election campaign.

The group of observers from the IPA CIS was also represented by the delegation of Azerbaijan: member of Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Khanlar Fatiyev and Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aidyn Jafarov.

Member of the Committee of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Agrarian Issues, Nature Management and Rural Development Saken Arubaev participated in the monitoring of the voting at the presidential election in Belarus.

Member of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic for Transport, Communications, Architecture and Construction Baktybek Sydykov said that multi-day voting is a new, unfamiliar practice for Kyrgyz people.

The group of the IPA CIS observers included Kyrgyz MPs Altynbek Kylychbaev and Bahridin Shabazov, as well as the authorized representative of the Parliament in the Assembly Shabdanbek Alishev.

First Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on CIS, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Kazbek Taisayev believes that the preparation for the elections in Belarus became more and more professional every time.

Chair of the Committee of Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan on Ensuring Constitutional Principles, Human and Civil Rights and Freedoms and the Rule of Law Dilshod Rakhmon noted the high legal culture of the voters of Belarus.

Member of the Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Judicial and Legal Issues and Anti-Corruption Zumrad Bekatova and member of the Committee of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Budget and Economic Issues of the Legislative Chamber Olga Litvinova monitored the opening of polling stations on the main day of voting. The MPs of Uzbekistan emphasized their attention on good training of members of election commissions.

On election day, observers visited 321 polling stations.
