IIMDD IPA CIS in Chisinau hosted international symposium Referendum as the Top Form of Direct Democracy

International symposium Referendum as the Top Form of Direct Democracy took place in Chisinau. The conference was organized by IIMDD IPA CIS in Chisinau, Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Institute for Legal and Political Research at the ASM and the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of Moldova (ASDM).

The Conference built on the three-stage project implemented by the organizers. The project involved national public opinion surveys and the outcome research having the same name as the Conference which became the forum of discussing its outcomes. The research was made by the IIMDD in cooperation with the ASM Institute.

The Conference brought together MPs from Moldova, members of the CEC, diplomats, representatives of political parties and NGOs, election observers, and the media.

Director of IIMDD in Chisinau Eugeniu Stirbu spoke on the importance of the referendum as a key element of direct democracy, with a particular focus on understanding by voters of issues put to referendums.

Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, Resident Representative of the Parliament of Moldova to the IPA CIS Ion Lipciu attended the Conference.
