IPA CIS Observers Perform Monitoring of Parliamentary Elections in Republic of Belarus

On the day of the elections to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, the IPA CIS observers visited four district election commissions and 147 polling stations.

During the voting, all necessary procedures were conducted in accordance with the law, and all voters were given equal and unhindered access to the polling stations. The IPA CIS observers did not reveal any interference in the work of election commissions by administrative or law enforcement agencies.

The majority of the polling stations were attended by authorized representatives of the candidates, observers from public organizations and political parties, as well as members of international monitoring missions. During a conversation with the IPA CIS observers, they did not make significant comments on the organization and conduct of the voting procedure. The IPA CIS observers detected minor technical deficiencies that were not systemic and did not affect the outcome of the elections.

On the election day, the Coordinator of the IPA CIS Observer Team, First Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Abdujabbor Azizi and Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy met with heads of international observer missions from the OSCE PA, the PACE and the OSCE ODIHR. During the meeting, the parties exchanged information on the work of their observers during the monitoring and discussed the continued cooperation in order to improve election observation and harmonize observation standards.
