IPA CIS observers visited the Central Electoral Commission of Russia

On 12 August 2016, as part of the long-term monitoring of the parliamentary election to the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission of Russia Ella Panfilova had a meeting with IPA CIS observers.

The members of the IPA CIS Observer Team informed the Chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission about their plans and clarified the geography of the long-term and short-term monitoring. They highlighted that on the Election Day team members will monitor the election both in Russia and on ballot stations in the capitals of the IPA CIS member states.

The parties also discussed their cooperation. Ella Panfilova emphasized the importance of the information exchange between the organizers and representatives of foreign missions at all stages of the political campaign. She expressed her gratitude to foreign observers for their interest to the election and pledged her assistance if need be.

The IPA CIS observers also attended the drawing procedure to define the order of the political parties in the ballot paper. The drawing procedure also took place in the Central Electoral Commission and was attended by its members and representatives of the political parties.

As of today, the Central Electoral Commission has accredited 36 IPA CIS observers.
