Sergey Lebedev:

According to the News Agency BELTA, the CIS Observer Mission proposed their colleagues from the Office for Democratic and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to develop the common approach to assess the election. This is the information that Sergey Lebedev, the Head of the CIS Observer Mission for the election to the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, shared with journalists.

‘We do hope that finally the common approach for assessing electoral processes both in European countries and in the CIS will be adopted’ said Sergey Lebedev. He regrets that European colleagues are still trying to dictate their terms and bash current rules and procedures that are used as guidelines by the CIS Mission during the election monitoring.

The Head of the Mission also emphasized that during the parliamentary election in Belarus the CIS representatives are going to cooperate with their colleagues from ODIHR, certain arrangements are already in place.

So far, 230 foreign observers already have their accreditation for monitoring the parliamentary election that will take place on 11 September.
