CIS Prepares Model Law on Organic Production

On 30 March, a meeting of the IPA CIS working group for the preparation of the model law on Organic Agriculture was held in Tavricheskiy Palace

Head of the working group Oleg Mironenko, who headed the National Organic Union in 2016-2022, reported on the change of the name of the model law from on Organic Agriculture to on Organic Production.

This decision was made after a discussion, as a result of which it was decided that the new name of the document will significantly expand its scope of application. In particular, organic aquaculture and organic products from wild plants were added to the fifth article, which indicates the main directions of organic production.

Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus have brought up for discussion the issue of adjusting the terminology used in the draft model law on the subject of entrepreneurship. They also proposed to amend the article on the basic requirements for the production of organic products.

For the first time the draft model law was presented at the meeting of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Agrarian Policy, Natural Resources and Ecology on 12 May 2022.
