Convention to support preservation of cultural heritage

WG on drafting the Convention on the Protection of the CIS Cultural Heritage held its meeting in the Tavrichesky Palace – the IPA CIS headquarters. The IPA CIS introduced the draft Convention to become binding for all the CIS countries.

Vice-Chair of the IPA CIS PC on Culture, Information, Tourism and Sport, Member of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia Tigran Urikhanyan opened the meeting.

According to Chair of the Commission Sergey Rybakov the draft Convention will soon be disseminated among the CIS parliaments for further expert review and submission of proposals. The WG will again convene in February to sum up this feedback. The revised text will be presented at the CIS Plenary Session in spring, then it will refined for 6 more months and, possibly, approved during the autumn plenary.

"This document has a specific feature: the IPA CIS is the sponsor of the Convention, but it then will be transferred for deliberation within the CIS Execom and the Council of Heads of State", said Sergey Rybakov.

Deputy IPA SGs: Representative of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Kogut, Representative of the National Assembly of Armenia Aik Chilingaryan, Representative of Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic Nurbek Satvaldiev attended the meeting.
