22nd anniversary of the IPA CIS

22 years ago today in Alma-Ata, the then capital of Kazakhstan, the CIS Member Nations signed the Agreement on the Establishment of the IPA CIS. In May 1995 in Minsk, the CIS Heads of State signed the Convention on the constitution of the IPA CIS, a statutory document setting its terms of reference as an intergovernmental body.

The mandate of the Assembly is model law-making, election monitoring, hosting international events. It is an effective forum for parliamentarian expression and cooperation. Its international contacts bring in valuable external practices and ideas.
