2 February is Day of Victory in Battle of Stalingrad

The Battle of Stalingrad, one of the largest battles of the Second World War, was ended on 2 February 1943.
Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the memorable date.
“The Battle of Stalingrad is a grandiose battle in the history of not only the Great Patriotic War, but also the Second World War. The victory of the Soviet troops turned the tide of military events, strengthened the morale of the army and the people, instilled faith in the final liberation of the country from the Nazi invaders,” - the Speaker of the Federation Council.
On this memorable day, mourning and solemn events are held in Volgograd, attended by citizens of the Commonwealth countries. They lay flowers at the Eternal Flame on the Mamaev Kurgan, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Small Brethren’s Tomb, and at the steles dedicated to the courage and heroism of the natives of the Soviet republics who died heroically in the Battle of Stalingrad.
