49th IPA CIS plenary session took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace

The 49th IPA CIS plenary session took place in the Tavricheskiy Palace. The meeting brought together Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Oktay Asadov, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, Speaker of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of KazakhstanDariga Nazarbayeva, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of the Kyrghyz Republic Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Ion Lipciu, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Ivan Melnikov, Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldashev, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Kasymguli Babayev. Members of the IPA CIS PCs, representatives of federal and regional authorities and international organizations, academia, specialists and experts joined them in the Dumsky Hall of the Tavricheskiy Palace.

During the opening ceremony, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko welcomed the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which became a full member of the organization having followd all the requested procedures, and the delegation of Turkmenistan, which participation in the IPA CIS sessions has become a traditional.

Drawing the outcomes of the organization’s activities, Valentina Matvienko highlighted the creation of IPA CIS Board of Experts on Economy, which had its first meeting successfully held on 12 March 2019.

Valentina Matvienko also summed up the results of the IPA CIS Council meeting and the Conference on Countering International Terrorism, which took place the day before, stressing the scale and representative composition of the event.

At the end of the welcoming speech, participants discussed model laws. In total, the meeting adopted 11 model laws acts prepared by the IPA CIS PCs. The total number of documents, developed by the IPA CIS, reached 557.
