Participants of Project “Memory Train” Finished their Patriotic Journey in Minsk

On 4 July, the closing ceremony of the cultural and educational project “Memory Train” was held in Misk State Palace of Children and Youth. It united more than 200 participants aged 15-17 years old from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalya Kochanova delivered her speech to the children. She emphasized the importance of being true to yourself, not betraying your country and historical memory.

Deputy Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Konstantin Kosachev joined participant at the last stage of the trip. He thanked the youth for their endurance, attention, resilience and understanding of the significance of their experience during the journey.

Children traveled 9316 km in 14 days. They visited Brest, Grodno, Polotsk, Mogilev, Gomel, Minsk, Saint-Petersburg, Petrozavodsk, Arkhangelsk, Vologda, Volgograd, Moscow, and the Moscow region. Participants visited sites, which are historically connected to the Great Patriotic War.

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko met participants in Kubinka, near Moscow. She remarked that one could read books and watch films about the Great Patriotic War, but nothing could be compared with emotions and warm perception gained from personal attendance of the great victory sites.

The project was first implemented in 2022 and initiated by Valentina Matveenko and Natalya Kochanova. Participants of the project were 10th grade students from Belarus and Russia. They visited cities, memorable battle sites of the Great Patriotic War. The number of participants has been extended to 8 countries of the Commonwealth by 2024.

The “Memory Train” project provides youth from the CIS countries with knowledge of history, feats of previous generations and allows building direct communication between youth from various regions.
