Valentina Matvienko: We Count On Development and Deepening Cooperation With IPU

Election of a new President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union took place during the 147th IPU Assembly. As a result of the voting Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania Tulia Ackson took the position. Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko sent congratulations to the new President of the IPU.
She expressed her belief that Tulia Ackson’s commitment to the balanced policy approaches, as well as her rich experience as a leader, scientist and lawyer would be in demand in the activities of a reputable international organization, it would encourage its dynamic development and enhance the role of the IPU in expending equal dialogue and consolidating the entire parliamentary community to address global challenges.
Valentina Matvienko added that she counted on the assistance of the IPU President in development and deepening cooperation with the IPA CIS, “the main dialogue platform for legislators in the post-Soviet space with the status of Associate Member of the Inter-Parliamentary Union”.
Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council expressed confidence that during the presidency of Tulia Ackson the IPU would continue its course of constructive cooperation with Russian MPs.
The 147th IPU Assembly was held under the topic on 23-27 October in Luanda (the Republic of Angola) “Parliamentary Action for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”.
