IPA CIS and PABSEC sign Cooperation Agreement

The negotiations of Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and President of PABSEC, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Maja Gojkovic took place today in the morning, in the margins of the Conference of Speakers of Parliament of CE member states. At the end of the meeting, IPA CIS and PASEC signed a Cooperation Agreement.

Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko and Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Alexey Sergeev signed the Agreement on the part of the IPA CIS. On the part of PABSEC, the Agreement was signed by President of PABSEC Maja Gojkovic and Secretary General of PABSEC Asaf Hajiyev.

The Agreement became a logic follow-up on the continued cooperation of the Assemblies which was started in 1998 with the signing of the Protocol on Cooperation. The mutual interest in joining efforts is proven by the geographical presence of both organizations in the Black Sea region (over half of IPA CIS parliaments participate in the work of PABSEC) and similar areas of activity.

The new document reaffirms the principles set out in the Protocol of 1998, extends and specifies the areas of cooperation of the Assemblies.
