IPA CIS Council Chairperson and PACE President sign a joint statement in the margins of the Spring Session

IPA CIS Council Chairperson Valentina Matvienko met with PACE President Pedro Agramunt in the margins of the IPA CIS Spring Session dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the IPA CIS and during the Parliamentary Conference on Combating International Terrorism.

Valentina Matvienko emphasized that PA CE and IPA CIS were celebrating the 20th anniversary of signing of the Cooperation Agreement. She stressed the importance of this document in supporting a constructive dialog of Eurasian MPs and strengthening cooperation of the two parliamentary associations. "The previous years were fruitful. Recently, we have stepped up our cooperation. We are open to cooperation and dialog understanding that progress is possibly only through mutual efforts", said Valentina Matvienko.

The IPA CIS Chairperson mentioned the importance of an opportunity to share opinions on challenges and threats faced by European states. She mentioned the successful outcome of the joint meeting of the IPA CIS PC on Political Issues and International Cooperation and the PACE Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy.

Pedro Agramunt congratulated the IPA CIS on the 25th anniversary. "We are seeing a positive progress in the relationships with the IPA CIS. I have np doubt that this cooperation will continue at various levels including through committees and commissions.

"Combating terrorism, refugees' issues, migration crisis, illegal drug trafficking are the key challenges for Europe. All European states must contribute to finding adequate responses", stressed the President of the PA CE.

On the occasion of the 20th cooperation university, the IPA CIS and PACE signed a joint statementstressing the mutual commitment to developing inter-parliamentary ties and cooperation.

IPA CIS Council SG Alexey Sergeev, Deputy Head of the Federation Council delegation to the IPA CIS Ilyas Umakhanov and Chair of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev attended the meeting.
