IPA CIS Delegation Takes Part in IPU 141st Assembly

On 13-17 October, the 141th Assembly of the Interparliamentary Union devoted to the 130th anniversary of the organization takes place in Belgrade (Republic of Serbia). The event brings together more than 700 MPs from 149 countries.

These days, the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation headed by Speaker of the Federation Council, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko, as well as Secretary General – Head of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat Dmitriy Kobitskiy and his Deputy, Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Mejlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Aidyn Jafarov are on an official visit to the Republic of Serbia.

The official opening ceremony took place on 13 October, where President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, President of the IPU Gabriela Cuevas Barron and Secretary General of the IPU Martin Chungong addressed the participants of the Assembly.

The Forum of Women Parliamentarians, Forum of Young Parliamentarians, as well as the meetings of the four standing committees of the IPU are to be held within the Assembly. The Russian senators are planning to initiate the draft resolution “Parliamentarians Against Unilateral Sanctions: in the Name of Democracy and Human Rights” within the IPU Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights. The Russian Federation draws attention to the principles of non-interference in internal affairs of sovereign states and inadmissibility of unilateral sanctions against parliamentarians.
