Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan elects new Speaker

Dariga Nazarbaeva, who had formerly chaired the Committee of the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan on Foreign Relations, Defense and Security, assumed the office of the Speaker.

44 members of Senate took part in the secret ballot-voting procedure. The candidature of Dariga Nazarbaeva was approved unanimously.

Dariga Nazarbaeva was born in 1963. She obtained university degrees in Moscow State University and Kazakh State University majoring in history, teaching and social studies. She has a doctoral degree in political science and a PhD in history, occupied a position of the Speaker of the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan. While serving as Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan she was appointed member of the Senate of the Parliament by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
