Valeentina Matvienko proposed to create the Eurasian Women’s Forum

At her meeting with the Prime-Minister of Uzbekistan and the Chairperson of the Women’s Guild of Uzbekistan Valentina Matvienko said that issues related to the social and economic welfare of women in the CIS are permanently in the focus of attention of the IPA CIS. By way of an example, she quoted the model law on Public Guarantees of Gender Equality passed by the assembly in 2005.

Valentina Matvienko Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Russian and CIS experience in promoting gender equality may be useful in creating the Eurasian Women’s Forum, an advocacy organization that could be instrumental in fostering integration across the Eurasian region.

The Forum could become a platform for sharing practices, promoting equality and family values and cultural heritage conservation in the region. Elmira Basitkhanova supported this proposal saying that more attention ought to be given to cultivating family values among the young generation.
