Concept of Tajikistan’s Chairmanship in Commonwealth of Independent States Presented to Plenipotentiary Representatives of CIS Countries

The first meeting of this year’s Council of Permanent Plenipotentiary Representatives of the CIS Member Nations to the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth chaired by the Republic of Tajikistan was held today.
The meeting was attended by CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev and Head of the CIS Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Coordinator of the Republic of Tajikistan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Ahmad Saidmurodzoda, who presented the Concept of Tajikistan’s Chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2025 and the Action Plan for its implementation.
The purpose of the chairmanship is to facilitate the achievement of the goals and objectives of the key documents and comprehensive development strategies of the Commonwealth covering the medium term. An innovative idea of the Tajikistan chairmanship will be the launch of the discussion on the improvement of the CIS activities.
The diplomat emphasized that the chairmanship will be conducted on the basis of the principles of continuity and respect for the opinion of each Member State.
The participants in the meeting reviewed the draft agenda of the next meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers to be held on 11 April in Astana. The meeting is proposed to consider documents related to security issues, cooperation of border agencies, defense ministries. Also on the agenda are four humanitarian issues: the establishment of the CIS film festival, the volunteer movement, the establishment of four basic organizations.
In addition, Permanent Plenipotentiary Representative of Turkmenistan at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Belarus Nazarkuly Shakulyev delivered information on the declaration of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust in Turkmenistan in connection with the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution “2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust” at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation at the Statutory and other Bodies of the Commonwealth Andrey Grozov informed his colleagues about the Plan of joint activities of the Council of Permanent Representatives dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
Representative of the Secretariat of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly in the CIS Executive Committee Igor Borovko took part in the meeting.
