Experts Agreed on Draft CIS Cooperation Program on Countering Terrorism in Field of Model Legislation

On 5 May, an online meeting of the expert group was held to agree on the projects of the CIS Cooperation Program on Countering Terrorism and Extremism for 2023-2025 and the relevant Decisions of the Council of the CIS Heads of State.

Experts discussed and approved the draft Program on the development of Model Legislation in countering terrorist threats. In the next three years, it is expected to develop a Model Law on Countering the Use of Autonomous and Robotic Systems for Terrorist Purposes, Recommendations on the Implementation of Administrative and Legal Measures of Authorities in the Field of Anti-Terrorist Security of the CIS Member Nations, as well as to adopt amendments to a number of other previously adopted model acts.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the CIS statutory bodies and bodies of sectoral cooperation, including the CIS Executive Committee, as well as the CIS executive authorities.

Executive Secretary of the Joint Commission at the IPA CIS for the Harmonization of National Laws Related to Security, Countering Emerging Threats and Challenges Stanislav Korostelev and Secretary of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Defense and Security Issues Alexander Borisov represented the IPA CIS Council Secretariat.

The text of the draft Program agreed by experts will be submitted to the Council of the CIS Heads of State in the end of 2022.
