IPA CIS Delegation Participates in 15th Plenary Session of Asian Parliamentary Assembly

The 15th Plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly is taking place in Baku. A delegation from the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly takes part in its events.
President of the APA, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova addressed the opening ceremony.
Speaker of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Natalia Kochanova, Speaker of the Majlisi namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda, Speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva addressed the participants.
The plenary session on the “Role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening multilateral cooperation in Asia” was held today. At the meeting it became known that Belarus was granted the observer status to the APA.
Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy spoke at the meeting about the long history of cooperation between the organizations. In November 2024, the IPA CIS Council decided to grant the Asian Parliamentary Assembly the observer status.
“Taking into account that six of the eight Member Nations of the IPA CIS are also members of the APA, I hope that the new status will make it possible to expand and deepen our relations and bring them to a new level of interaction,” - said Dmitriy Kobitskiy.
The IPA CIS delegation also included Chair of the IPA CIS Permanent Commission on Social Policy and Human Rights, member of the Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Law Policy and State-Building and on Defense, Security and Counter-Corruption Nizami Safarov, Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Aydin Jafarov, director of the Baku Office of the International Institute for Monitoring Democracy Development, Parliamentarianism and Suffrage Protection of Citizens of IPA CIS Member Nations (IPA CIS IIMDD) Ramin Rzayev took part in the events of the session.
