Memory of Fallen in Great Patriotic War Honored at Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery

Today, a mourning ceremony dedicated to the 82th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War took place at the Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery in St. Petersburg. The delegation of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly took part in the event.

Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Sokolova, First Deputy Head of IPA CIS Council Secretariat Sergey Kurdin, Deputy Head of IPA CIS Council Secretariat Elena Kuzina and other staff members of the IPA CIS Council Secretariat laid flowers to the Motherland Monument.

Representatives of the IPA CIS also laid flowers at the memorial plaques in memory of the natives of the former Soviet republics who fell in battles.

The Piskarevsky Memorial Cemetery is a monument to the victims of the Great Patriotic War, a witness to the universal tragedy and a place of universal worship. The memorial is dedicated to the memory of inhabitants of Leningrad and defenders of the city. There are 186 common graves, in which 420 thousands of inhabitants of the city, who died from hunger, bombing and shelling, as well as 70 thousands of soldiers, defenders of Leningrad are buried.
