St. Petersburg Marks Its 323rd Anniversary

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko congratulated the residents of St. Petersburg on City Day.
She noted that St. Petersburg possesses an immense cultural heritage and has developed rich military and labor traditions, while the heroic feat of besieged but unconquered Leningrad has been forever inscribed in world history.
To mark the occasion, a flower-laying ceremony was held at the foot of the monument to the city’s founder, Peter the Great – the Bronze Horseman.
The ceremony was attended by Russian parliamentarians, Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy and Deputy Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council – Plenipotentiary Representative of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Irina Sokolova, city officials and other dignitaries.
Since the beginning of its work, the IPA CIS headquarters has been located in St. Petersburg, which is often referred to as the parliamentary capital of the Commonwealth.
